Claim this, Claim that

I was watching one of those crap Claims Direct ads, here's a cut piece of the transcript:

Narrator: Steve claimed 16,000 pounds after an injury at work.

Steve: I tripped over a loose rope at work and fell and hurt my back. Then I rang Claims Direct and they fought my case for me on a "no win, no fee" basis

Narrator: So you see It's really that simple, If you've had an accident in the last three years call us, we could change your life with just one call.

Now I'll begin with things that are wrong with this ad:

1. I looked around on the claims direct web site and after much searching around I eventually found the story and a profile on Steve. It turned out Steve was a Safety Supervisor at his work, The rope should have been tidied up by him. Forget Steve suing the company, the company should never have hired him

2. No win, no fee. But on the bottom line it certain costs are applicable for all cases. What! They just said that there was no fee if you lost.

3. And if you win, have you gained anything. In 90% of the cases, NO. Usually it is the most stupid cases that get through. Example, the person who's house fell down due to gross negligence on the builders part probably loses. Whereas the person who got lung cancer from smoking who sues the cigarette company maybe gets £50,000.

Who's fault is it that this is happening? The people like claims direct? The answer is probably not, a company will always try to leach off a current situation.

It's a viscous circle, Someone sues, goes on news, person sees on news, tries to sue for stupid thing. But the way to stop it is simply to have common sense, another story I read in the newspaper was that someone held a party and one of the chairs collapsed, a good friend sued her for this.
